2000s Nostalgia Meets Psychological Horror in ‘lily’s world XD,’ Launching This September

UK publisher Kwalee and developer/creator SonderingEmily have announced a Sept. 16 PC release date for the upcoming psychological horror game, lily’s world XD.

Set in 2004, the story follows the mysterious disappearance of Lily, a typical, awkward teenager who was hiding a dark secret. Players investigate her leftover laptop to piece together her whereabouts by combing through old blog posts, decoding archived messages, and reconnecting with her childhood friends.

The investigation takes a terrifying turn as players realize they aren’t alone. Unseen forces actively attempt to block the search—leaving even the player’s own desktop vulnerable to eerie intrusions.

Drawing heavily from mid-2000s internet culture, lily’s world XD tackles themes of friendship, body image, and online isolation. To heighten the early-internet realism, the developer incorporated authentic teenage photos of herself and her friends into the game’s visuals.

Players can sample the opening chapter today by downloading the free lily’s world XD demo on Steam.
