Farming sim meets eldritch terror on Sept. 10 when solo developer Chris Cote and publisher Kwalee release Welcome to Elderfield on PC via Steam.
Featuring hand-drawn horror manga-inspired artwork and a dark lo-fi soundtrack by Dated, the cozy horror RPG drops players into a town where the abnormal is normal, the locals are odd, the cosmic beings watch your every move, and the local news reports seem stranger by the day.
Players build a life as an Elderfield resident—customizing their home, solving daily mysteries, and befriending or romancing odd townsfolk. Mechanics blend traditional life-sim activities like fishing, mining, and foraging with uncanny twists: players can grow pumpkins and corn alongside teeth and eyeballs, manage otherworldly livestock, and clear unruly tentacles from their land.
The game offers two distinct modes. Cozy mode offers a laid-back experience focused on a peaceful life of harvest and discovery. For those who crave a challenge, the Old Gods are waiting. Welcome to Elderfield features a deep, turn-based combat system where you must utilize gathered resources, strategic buffs, and diverse equipment to survive encounters with ancient, Lovecraftian horrors.
Players can visit the quaint town of Elderfield ahead of the full release by downloading the demo, which is available on Steam now. The demo allows players to explore one area of the town, the farm and ranch, the first dungeon (the local mall), and several additional locations.
