Six Flags Magic Mountain kicked off Sunday’s theme park panels at Midsummer Scream with a major slate of announcements for Fright Fest 2026. Hosted by Manager of Entertainment Mike Ostrom and Senior Creative Supervisor Mark Wing, the hour-long presentation revealed key additions—headlined by the world’s first Final Destination theme park attraction—alongside maze retirements, relocated scare zones, and revamped live entertainment.
Tricks and Treats Expansion
The park’s daytime, family-friendly event, Tricks and Treats, is being revamped for 2026. The expanded footprint will feature an all-new Looney Tunes live show, interactive walkthroughs, crafting stations, live music, and family entertainment running daily.
Fright Fest Lineup Shift
Ostrom addressed the maze lineup immediately, confirming five attractions will not return for 2026: Condemned, Truth or Dare, Grimmlore Ridge, Carnivhell, and SAW: Legacy of Terror. While the retirements drew visible reactions from the audience, Ostrom noted that several fan-favorite characters will be integrated into other areas of the park.
Four mazes return with notable updates: Trick ‘r Treat (based on Michael Dougherty’s cult classic film), Vault 66, Willoughby’s Resurrected, and Carnage. Trick ‘r Treat moves to the footprint previously occupied by SAW. Wing confirmed that every returning attraction is receiving physical and technical enhancements for the upcoming season.
Scare Zone Relocations and Updates
All seven scare zones return for 2026: City Under Siege, Plaza de La Muerte, Devil’s Triangle, Exile Hill, Thunderbolt Alley, Underworld of Oz, and Nightmares: Reign of Blood.
To heighten atmospheric terror, Devil’s Triangle moves away from the main entrance, making it darker and more intimidating than ever before. Thunderbolt Alley receives upgraded set pieces and entertainment options after its debut last season. Wing added that all zones will feature expanded footprints and new character interactions, particularly within Nightmares: Reign of Blood.
New Entertainment and Experiences
With Devil’s Triangle relocated, the main entrance will now feature an all-new opening statement for the event, leading into a relocated and reimagined Unleashed. The spectacle centers on an original icon named Kurvatu, a demonic portal that opens the portals to the park’s nightmares and fears.
Additional live entertainment announcements included:
- Sliders of the Night: Dreams of the Damned: The popular slider show returns with a revamped format developed in collaboration with the park’s slider team, featuring higher energy, new choreography, and updated stunts.
- Nytewalkers: Created in partnership with All Wheels Sports, this high-energy stunt production brings action athletes, dancers, and acrobats to the Full Throttle Stage. It marks the largest production ever staged at that location.
- Margo Rita’s Monster Ball: The fan-favorite show moves to the Gear Works Theater with a fresh storyline picking up after Margo’s daughters return home from their underworld tour. The production introduces two new characters: Kal (a werewolf, whose nickname is short for Kahlúa) and Sangria Monáe (the group’s tour manager).
New and Reimagined Mazes
Beyond live shows, Magic Mountain announced a major overhaul of its maze portfolio, beginning with a complete transformation of The Conjuring. Wing revealed the long-running attraction is being overhauled with new scare tactics and iconic franchise entities, including The Crooked Man and The Ferryman.
Joining the lineup is Final Destination: Death’s Playground, an all-new maze developed in partnership with Warner Bros. Marking the first time the film franchise has been adapted into a theme park haunt, the maze takes over the former Condemned location and places guests inside a series of gruesome, inevitable disaster scenarios as they attempt to outrun Death. “You’re going to see some really, really horrible things in here,” said Ostrom during the presentation.
Rounding out the news is Wolves Blood, an original maze designed in collaboration with veteran Knott’s Scary Farm designer Gus Krueger. Taking over the space previously home to Truth or Dare, the storyline follows a werewolf rock band hosting a violent coming-out show in the desolate town of Daylight’s End. The experience features several Easter eggs for haunt fans, including nods to Hollywood’s Rainbow Bar & Grill and former mazes like Red’s Revenge.
The maze concludes at the Dungeon Theater where the band is performing. Krueger added a fun tidbit about the final scene during the panel, “When you get to the theater, it’s not a straight shot in,” explained Krueger. “You’re going to pass a merch booth with some cool merch…which the band may or may not be using corpses to display.”
