CREATORVC, the production company behind the critically acclaimed “In Search of Darkness” documentary series, has opened pre-orders through Nov. 2 for its latest genre deep-dive, “Slasher Trash.”

Written and directed by former Fangoria editor Michael Gingold, the over 4-hour documentary takes an extensive look at the low-budget, high-body-count slasher boom of the late 1970s and 1980s. The project was inspired by the Slasher Trash Facebook community, founded in 2017 by Gareth Morgan.

“Slasher Trash” traces the genre’s roots back to classic proto-slashers—including Alfred Hitchcock’s “Psycho,” Herschell Gordon Lewis’s lurid gorefests, Pete Walker’s British shockers, and the Italian gialli of Mario Bava and Dario Argento—before diving into the obscure, forgotten B-movies and cult favorites of the VHS era. The film breaks down key thematic tropes running through the subgenre, from “horrifying holidays” to “terror in the woods” and “campus carnage.”

Alongside the pre-order launch, CREATORVC revealed a cast of more than 40 horror filmmakers, actors, and genre experts. Featured interviews include:

  • David Howard Thornton (Art the Clown in the “Terrifier” franchise)
  • Grady Hendrix (Author of “The Final Girl Support Group”)
  • Caroline Munro (“Slaughter High”)
  • George Mihalka (Director of “My Bloody Valentine”)
  • William Lustig (Director of “Maniac”)
  • Brinke Stevens (“The Slumber Party Massacre”)

“Slasher Trash” is available for pre-order at SlasherTrashDoc.com through Nov. 2. The digital release is slated for December 2026, with physical editions scheduled to ship in February 2027.
