Ti West’s “X” trilogy is a horror franchise centered on the pursuit of fame and the horrors of aging, all anchored by actress Mia Goth. The first film, “X,” is a slasher set in 1979 where a group of adult film actors are stalked and killed by an elderly couple in rural Texas. The prequel, “Pearl,” is an origin story set in 1918 that chronicles the title character’s descent into madness as her dreams of becoming a movie star are repeatedly crushed. The final installment, “MaXXXine,” follows the sole survivor of the first film, Maxine Minx, as she pursues mainstream fame in 1980s Hollywood, only to be targeted by a serial killer while her violent past returns to haunt her.
