A24’s blockbuster horror film “Backrooms” will make its exclusive U.S. streaming debut on HBO Max on Friday, Sept. 25, followed by a linear premiere on HBO on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 8 p.m. ET.
Helmed by YouTube sensation Kane Parsons in his feature directorial debut, “Backrooms” centers on a strange doorway in a furniture showroom basement. The portal opens into an infinite, liminal labyrinth where time warps, isolation mounts, and something unseen hunts anyone trapped inside.
The film boasts an ensemble cast led by Chiwetel Ejiofor (“12 Years a Slave”), Renate Reinsve (“Sentimental Value”), Mark Duplass (“Creep”), Finn Bennett (“Warfare”), and Lukita Maxwell (“Shrinking”).
Following its theatrical release, “Backrooms” shattered records to become A24’s highest-grossing film in studio history, pulling in more than $395 million globally. The film also secured a Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, earning praise for its suffocating atmosphere and standout lead performances.
