Bloober Team and Lionsgate Announce Prequel Horror Game ‘SAW: Genesis’

On Friday, Summer Game Fest delivered a massive twist for horror fans. Lionsgate and Bloober Team—the psychological horror veterans behind the Silent Hill 2 remake and Blair Witch—are reuniting to drop players straight into a brand-new nightmare: SAW: Genesis.

Stepping away from John Kramer’s modern-day torture chambers, SAW: Genesis serves as a prequel set a century before the films. Set in the grim, shell-shocked aftermath of World War I, the game explores the origins of the Jigsaw philosophy.

SAW: Genesis is a 3v1 multiplayer horror game in which three Accused are pressure-driven to work together to escape a potentially fatal maze of traps while a single Judge orchestrates their trials, imposing diabolical tests and forcing impossible moral choices where survival comes with a cost. SAW: Genesis lets players take part in either side of this unnerving confrontation in intense matches played on procedurally generated maps.

“Multiplayer in the SAW universe is a natural evolution of its core theme – moral choices – now amplified in a shared, unpredictable setting,” said Bloober Team’s Piotr Babieno. “With this ambitious game, psychological tension is driven by player interaction and consequence.”

True to the films, survival requires permanent sacrifice. Injure your arm, and it will be harder to complete puzzles and fight back. Injure a leg, and you’ll move slower, becoming easier to corner. Survival is possible, but you may not survive intact.

Players can be among the first to experience SAW: Genesis by signing up for upcoming playtests or joining the game when Early Access launches this fall. The playtests will run for a limited time window in the near future, giving selected participants an early chance to step into the world and help shape its development.
