Indie game development studio, White Paper Games, has announced its latest title, “I AM RIPPER.”
The brutality and economic decline of the 1980s serve as the backdrop for this new video game set in a small north-western dock town in Britain. Players take on the role of a forensic investigator called on to solve one of the UK’s most prolific crimes. Throughout the game, they’ll be faced with critical decisions that will change the outcome of their investigation. Players must confront a series of gut-wrenching challenges, placing the fates of others in their hands. Find the forensics, reveal the secrets, and pursue the person responsible.
At its core, “I AM RIPPER” is a thriller. “The thriller genre is underserved,” said White Paper Games in a news release. “We have media on TV, in movies, documentaries, and podcasts, but we have few game examples. We want ‘I AM RIPPER’ to cater to all those people who love gritty thrillers, but don’t have an interactive way of exploring the themes, situations, and challenges in a non-linear way.”
The game builds upon everything the studio has learned from its past three titles about story delivery, tactile gameplay, and meaningful consequences. It’s not a puzzle game, horror game, or detective game, but it has all the key components of those genres to create something that feels rewarding and explorative of core themes and characters that feel real and grounded in their world.
While a release window for the game has not yet been announced, “I AM RIPPER” is available to wishlist now on the Epic Games Store and GOG.
