Canada Released a Nearly All Black Bat Coin Last Year and You Can Still Buy It!

I was browsing through Reddit the other night and came across a post that said, “Royal Canadian Mint has created the most goth coin ever.”  Of course, I had to click on it and what I discovered was a thing of beauty.  Apparently, in 2017, The Royal Canadian Mint minted 7,000 “Nocturnal by Nature” coins featuring a little brown bat.

The coin is the second in a series of nocturnal creatures coins the mint has released and features the little brown bat, which can be found in Canada from the edge of the Arctic tundra to the Great Lakes.  The coin is 99.99% pure silver but is plated in black rhodium to look like the night sky which allows the silver moon’s uniquely frosted finish to shine through.  The front of the coin features the face of Queen Elizabeth II.  The coin comes presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded maroon clamshell with a black beauty box and includes a serialized certificate.

The $20 coin costs $119.95 CAD or $91.19 USD and ships for free.  At the time of this writing, 82% of the mintage had been sold but can still be purchased through the Royal Canadian Mint website.
