According to The Hollywood Reporter, a script is in development for a series called “Book of Enchantment,” which will be adapted from the Villains book series by Serena Valentino. The books, published by Disney Books take a deeper dive into the stories of some of Disney’s most famous villains exploring what made these villains the way they are, or by retelling a Disney classic from the villain’s perspective.
The series, which has reportedly been in the works for months will be a drama written and produced by Michael Seitzman (“Quantico,” “Code Black”) for Disney’s upcoming streaming platform Disney+, which is expected to launch sometime in late 2019.
Valentino has released five books as part of her Villains series, which kicked off in 2009 with “Fairest of All,” which examined the life of the Wicked Queen from Snow White and reveals the story of what turned her so wicked. The subsequent books in the series explored the stories of the Beast from Beauty and the Beast, Ursula from The Little Mermaid, Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty, and most recently Mother Gothel from Tangled.
