Scream Factory has officially announced that 40 years after it first terrorized audiences, George A. Romero’s “Day of the Dead” is finally getting the restoration it deserves. Arriving June 16, 2026, this limited-edition 4-disc Collector’s Edition 4K UHD set marks a milestone for horror preservation.
While it was long feared that the original film elements were lost forever, a years-long search by Radial Entertainment’s Jeff Roland has finally paid off.
“After years of searching, finally tracking it down was a moment worth celebrating,” said Roland. “Restoring it to its full, gory glory was an honor we didn’t take lightly. This all-time classic has come back to life, exactly as it deserves to be seen.”
Sourced directly from the original interpositive, the film is presented in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, ensuring Tom Savini’s legendary practical effects look more visceral than ever. Audio options include a new Atmos mix, 5.1 Surround, and the original 2.0 Dual Mono for the purists.
Housed in a premium rigid slipcase with collectible lobby cards, the set is packed with new and archival bonus content, including a new audio commentary, seven new interviews, and two new featurettes.

Widely regarded as one of the most influential horror films ever made, “Day Of The Dead” is the triumphant conclusion to George A. Romero’s landmark “Dead” trilogy. In it, a small group of scientists and soldiers take refuge underground as they struggle to control the flesh-eating horror that walks the earth above. The film stars Lori Cardille as the determined scientist Dr. Sarah Bowman, alongside Terry Alexander, Joseph Pilato as the menacing Captain Rhodes, Richard Liberty, Jarlath Conroy, and Sherman Howard as “Bub”—the most famous domesticated zombie in cinema history.
