Halloween ComicFest Announces 2017 Titles

Halloween ComicFest announced the full list of titles being released for this year’s event today via Facebook.  This year, Halloween ComicFest will feature a total of 30 titles; 18 full-size and 12 mini-comics.  The annual event takes place every year on the Saturday on or before Halloween at participating comic shops worldwide, with this year’s event taking place on Saturday, October 28.

Here are the 18 full-size titles that were announced:

Black Betty

The first comic announced was a Black Betty one-shot, which will preview a new series from Action Lab – Danger Zone.  The series, which is due to hit stores in January expands the Zombie Tramp universe as Black Betty travels the country battling anything various creatures of the night.

Babyteeth

Aftershock comics is releasing an exclusive black and white first issue of its new series Babyteeth.  The story of 16-year-old Sadie Ritter who just so happens to be pregnant with the antichrist.

Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina #7

Archie Comics is re-releasing this issue as a Halloween ComicFest exclusive.  In this macabre tale featuring everyone’s favorite teenage witch, you’ll learn the backstory of Sabrina’s father, Edward Spellman.

Choose Your Own Aspen Adventure

Aspen Comics returns for 2017 with another Halloween ComicFest coloring book, but this time it is an original ComicFest exclusive, Choose Your Own Aspen Adventure.

Lady Mechanika

Benitez Productions brings Lady Mechanika to this year’s Halloween ComicFest in La Dama De La Muerte issue 1.  La Dama de la Muerte was a special three-part Day of the Dead series released in 2016 and in the first issue, Lady Mechanika finds herself defending a town against the mythical Hell Riders.

Hellboy and the B.P.R.D. 1953

Dark Horse Comics will be reprinting Hellboy and the B.P.R.D. 1953 for this year’s Halloween ComicFest.  In this comic Hellboy faces off against some of the most horrible figures of British folklore.

Ghostbusters: Dia De Los Muertos

IDW is calling on the Ghostbusters this Halloween ComicFest in a reprint of Ghostbusters Dia De Los Muertos, where Melanie Ortiz and the Ghostbusters team up to track down a troublesome ghost.

Batman: Night of the Monster Men

The first Halloween ComicFest title from DC is a reprint of the first rebirth crossover, Batman: Night of the Monster Men, where Batman, Nightwing and Batwoman team up to face off against Hugo Strange.

DC SuperHero Girls

DC’s second title for Halloween ComicFest is a preview of their upcoming DC SuperHero Girls graphic novel, Past Times at Super Hero High where all your favorite DC super heroines find themselves on an unexpected field trip back in time.

Runaways #1

Marvel Comics will reprint the first issue of the Runaways for this year’s Halloween ComicFest.  With a new live-action Hulu series in the works, this is the perfect starting point to see what all the hype is about.

Darth Maul #1

Marvel’s second contribution to Halloween ComicFest 2017 comes from the Star Wars universe with a reprint of Darth Maul issue 1, where Maul prepares for his first encounter with the Jedi.

The Mighty Thor #354

Marvel’s final contribution to Halloween ComicFest aligns perfectly with their release of Thor: Ragnarok, which is set to hit theaters the week after Halloween ComicFest.  In their reprint of Walt Simonson’s The Mighty Thor, readers are reminded of the historic battle between Thor and Hela, which inspired the film.

Akira, Battle Angel Alita, & Sailor Moon Eternal

Kodansha Comics will release a special three-issue preview of Akira, Battle Angel Alita and Sailor Moon Eternal, perfect for those looking to explore the Manga genre of comics.

The Tick #1

New England Comics is taking us back to 1988 with an exclusive colored reprint of the classic first issue of The Tick.

Shiver

Viz Media’s contribution to this year’s Halloween ComicFest collects some of Manga horror creator Junji Ito’s best stories, hand-picked by the author himself and combined into this special Halloween ComicFest exclusive, Shiver.

The Mortal Instruments

Yen Press and author Cassandra Clare have teamed up to create an all-new graphic novel adaptation of The Mortal Instruments, which is set to hit stores on Halloween.  But Halloween ComicFest fans can get a preview issue of the comic at this year’s event.

Malika: The Dragon Trials

Youneek Studios will release an original story for Halloween ComicFest 2017 with a special issue featuring Malika the Warrior Queen as she takes on the Dragon Trials.

Grimm Tales of Terror

Zenescope is releasing a special edition of Grimm Tales of Terror for this year’s Halloween ComicFest.  This all new Halloween horror story ties in directly to the upcoming film based on the comic book series.

The all-ages mini-comics are perfect for the trick-or-treaters and can be purchase in packs before Halloween ComicFest and are encouraged to be given out in classrooms and to trick-or-treaters on Halloween night.  This year’s mini-comics include:

In addition to this year’s comic titles, Halloween ComicFest revealed the artwork for this year’s exclusive Halloween ComicFest t-shirt featuring artwork by Afterlife with Archie artist, Francesco Francavilla.  This year’s shirt features iconic monsters like Frankenstein’s Monster, Dracula, and The Mummy in a coffin cruiser as they ride off to give comics to trick or treaters on Halloween.  The first ever commemorative shirt will be available in men’s, women’s, and youth sizes, and will hit stores a few weeks prior to Halloween ComicFest, but pre-orders from your local comic shop are recommended.
