HalloweenCostumes.com Survey Confirms What We’ve All Been Thinking: Halloween Is Growing

HalloweenCostumes.com, the online destination for Halloween costumes, decorations, and more, has released the results of its 2025 Halloween in America survey, confirming what many of us have been thinking: Halloween is growing in popularity.

HalloweenCostumes.com surveyed 1,000 adults across the United States to see how Americans are planning, spending, and celebrating Halloween this year. Despite the economic climate, spending remains strong, and by all appearances, the holiday is growing as a celebration.

More Community Halloween Participation

According to the survey results, the Halloween spirit is steady or growing in most communities. According to respondents:

  • 70% say organized events are the same or increasing
  • 73% say pet-friendly events are the same or increasing
  • 75% say home/yard decorating is the same or increasing
  • 72% say costume participation is the same or increasing
  • 52% say traditional trick-or-treating is the same or increasing

Budgets Remain Strong for 2025

While tariffs had stoked fears around Halloween spending earlier this year, over half (51%) of respondents said they plan to spend about the same on Halloween as last year, while 22% plan to increase their Halloween spending in 2025, indicating a healthy appetite for costumes, dรฉcor, and celebration supplies. Interestingly, while the Halloween shopping season arrived earlier than ever this year, 45% of respondents said they don’t plan to start shopping until early October.

Decorating Continues to Grow

Home and yard decorations remain a staple, with 68% of respondents decorating outside (up from 62% in 2023 and 30% in 2022) and 61% decorating inside (up from 58% in 2023 and 26% in 2022). Garage, vehicle, and office decorating also continue to gain popularity, reflecting a widespread desire to bring Halloween spirit into all spaces.

Pumpkins remain the most popular type of dรฉcor (50%), followed by animatronics or moving decorations and inflatables (21%), and skeletons/skulls (18%). HalloweenCostumes.com notes that this trend is reflected in the market, with companies releasing more animatronics and outdoor dรฉcor each year to meet the growing demand.

Workplace Halloween Grows

Workplace Halloween celebrations are also on the rise. According to the results:

  • 51% of workplaces hand out candy
  • 48% decorate desks/offices
  • 44% allow accessories or themed apparel

These results show more than triple the participation compared to just a few years ago, when only 15%, 12%, and 13% reported engaging in these activities, respectively.
