Fathom Entertainment and The Jim Henson Company are partnering to bring the beloved 1986 music-filled fantasy adventure “Labyrinth,” remastered in stunning 4K, back to theaters for its 40th anniversary on January 8-11, 2026. Starring David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly, this special limited engagement celebrates a cinematic landmark.
Directed by Jim Henson and executive produced by George Lucas, “Labyrinth” stars a 14-year-old Jennifer Connelly in her breakthrough role as Sarah, a teenager who must navigate a magical maze to rescue her baby stepbrother, Toby, from the clutches of the enigmatic Goblin King, Jareth (David Bowie).
The 40th Anniversary theatrical release will also include a special featurette celebrating the film’s dedicated fans, featuring footage captured on location at the UK’s recent “Labyrinth Experience & Masked Ball.”
“Labyrinth” is based on a story by Jim Henson and Dennis Lee, with a screenplay by Terry Jones (“Monty Python’s Flying Circus”). The score was composed by Trevor Jones, featuring original songs contributed to the film and performed by David Bowie.
The film also features breathtaking production design, extraordinary practical effects, and the magical artistry of hundreds of Henson puppets and creatures brought to life by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop. Conceptual design was by Brian Froud, with creatures performed by David Goelz, Steve Whitmire, Karen Prell, Ron Mueck, Kevin Clash, Shari Weiser, Anthony Asbury, Brian Henson, and Frank Oz.
