Longevity, Spooky Pictures, and Image Nation Multi-Picture Deal Sets ‘Deadstream’ Duo for Reddit Adaptation ‘Future Me’

Joseph & Vanessa Winter

Filmmaking duo Joseph and Vanessa Winter will write and direct the psychological horror-thriller “Future Me,” the latest big-screen adaptation of a viral internet lore story.

The project is the next feature under a newly expanded multi-picture partnership between Longevity Pictures, indie genre label Spooky Pictures, and global studio Image Nation. The trio previously teamed up on the upcoming horror thriller “Home Safety Hotline,” directed by Michael Matthews (“Love and Monsters”) and based on the popular puzzle video game.

Based on Daria Vasileva’s viral short story published on Reddit’s “NoSleep” subreddit, a renowned online community for user-generated horror fiction, “Future Me” follows a man who receives a deeply unsettling email from his past self via the website FutureMe. The message plunges him down a terrifying, surreal rabbit hole.

Husband-and-wife team Joseph and Vanessa Winter broke out with their critically acclaimed 2022 SXSW debut “Deadstream,” which was acquired by Shudder and became one of the platform’s most acclaimed original releases. They followed it with the fan-favorite segment “To Hell and Back” in “V/H/S/99” and are currently attached to a fresh reimagining of the “Amityville Horror” franchise.

Future Me will be produced by Majd Nassif (“Mercy”) for Longevity Pictures alongside Spooky Pictures’ Steven Schneider (“The Long Walk”) and Roy Lee (“Weapons”). Ben Ross (“Watcher”) of Image Nation and Aysel Lyatifova (“Mercy”) of Longevity Pictures will executive produce.

“Spooky Pictures and Image Nation Studios have built an incredible track record for championing high-concept, creator-driven horror storytelling, so expanding our partnership felt like a natural next step, particularly at a time when there is a proven market appetite and openness for fresh concepts and emerging creative voices,” said Majd Nassif, president of Longevity Pictures. “After the success of ‘Backrooms,’ the potential of internet lore as fertile ground for adaptation has become undeniable – so we’re excited to be bringing Future Me to life with a team which shares our passion for original and punchy genre projects. It’s a story that has already captured the imagination of audiences online, and Joseph and Vanessa are the ideal pair to take it to the big screen.”
