Mattel Expands the Monster High Universe with Moonspell Magic

Ahead of the New York Toy Fair (Feb 14 – 17), Mattel has unveiled Moonspell Magic by Monster High, an enchanting extension of the Monster High universe. This new line introduces five original characters into a fresh yet familiar world where monsters and witches thrive together, encouraging fans to embrace their own unique spark through the power of friendship.

“Monster High has always stood for celebrating what makes each of us unique,” said Jamie Peters, Vice President, Global Brand Marketing, Dolls Portfolio at Mattel. “Moonspell Magic by Monster High is a powerful extension of that belief. These new characters are all about discovering your own magic and realizing how much stronger it becomes through friendship and community.”

The five new dolls, each dressed in their own spellbinding style, come with enchanting accessories, including a witch hat, a spellbook, and a cauldron with a magical surprise inside. The lineup introduces a diverse group of witches with unique powers and lived experiences:

Willow Thorne (Nature Witch)

Willow Thorne arrives in earth-toned attire—a fitting choice for a nature witch who spends her days brewing healing potions in the garden. While Willow is hard of hearing and wears a hearing aid, she is so deeply attuned to the earth that she can commune with trees and coax plants into bloom. Magic herb foraging is made easy with her signature moth purse and pouch belt, and she comes prepared for any ritual with a spell jar of plants, a potion bottle, and her trusted nature spellbook.

Carina Song (Love Witch)

When it comes to style, Carina Song literally wears her heart on her sleeve. As a love witch dedicated to the magic of friendship, she helps others discover their inner glow and embrace self-love. A master of mood-boosting alchemy, Carina comes equipped with a signature potion perfume bottle—perfect for mixing magic perfumes that can channela person’s strengths and lift their spirits. Her enchanting look, featuring a pink and mauve dress and matching purse and witch’s hat, is rounded out by a spellbook and a moonlight mirror for channeling her powers.

Claire de Luna (Clairvoyant Witch)

Shimmering like the midnight sky, Claire de Luna is a vision in star-accented attire. As a gifted clairvoyant, Claire possesses the rare ability to see into the future; though she is blind, she navigates the heavens with ease, reading the constellations as fluently as her fingers read braille. Tinted sunglasses protect her eyes, while her cane helps her get around in between classes. Her ensemble features a witch’s hat, a celestial silver belt, and a moon-shaped purse. No fortune-teller is complete without her tools, and Claire comes prepared with a crystal ball, a star guidebook, and a potion bottle.

Layla Stone (Crystal Witch)

Layla Stone radiates in a palette of rich jewel tones, perfectly reflecting her life as a sparkle-loving crystal witch. A master of enchanted jewelry, Layla harnesses the power of gemstones to craft protective talismans for her friends. Her cropped metallic jacket is as iridescent as a precious opal, paired effortlessly with an amethyst-hued witch’s hat and matching boots. With rock charms dangling from her belt and purse, Layla’s kit is complete with a potion bottle, spellbook, and a rare invisibility crystal.

Rae Lumina (Sun Witch)

Rae Lumina’s style is as brilliant as a summer afternoon. As a sun witch, she brings her own light to every room—literally!—with the power to create rainbows and channel solar energy. Her shimmering top captures the essence of a midday sun, paired perfectly with a “denim” skirt in a soft sunrise pink. Accented by a purple witch’s hat and a golden belt, Rae stays organized on the go with a tasseled messenger bag. Additional accessories include a sunbeam candle, a potion bottle, and a sunshine spellbook.

Beyond the magic and fashion, Mattel worked closely with partner organizations, including the American Foundation for the Blind and Hearing Milestones, to ensure that the dolls’ and their packaging’s inclusive design details were thoughtfully and authentically integrated.

“When children see characters who reflect their own experiences, it supports confidence and a sense of belonging,” said Dr. Jenny Richardson of Hearing Milestones. “Working on this new line with Monster
High was an opportunity to show that a character goes beyond any single trait—and that every child’s
experience is valid, meaningful, and worthy of representing.”

Moonspell Magic by Monster High is set to cast a spell on retailers nationwide starting in July 2026.
