Prime Video to Reimagine Thai Folktale of Mae Sue as a Supernatural Horror

On Monday, Prime Video revealed first-look images for its new Thai Amazon Original film “Host,” marking the first-ever cinematic reimagining of Thailand’s legendary “Mae Sue” โ€“ the guardian spirit of newborns โ€“ as a supernatural horror.

“Host” follows Ing, a young woman sent to a reform school on a remote island where obedience is the only rule. The school operates under a strict hierarchy with the principal’s favored student at the top and Ing at the bottom. Shortly after her arrival, a series of disturbing incidents begin to unfold. As these unsettling events accumulate, Ing must confront a terrifying question: is she merely a victim of these supernatural occurrences, or could she herself be their source?

The film brings together acclaimed director Pokpong-Pairach Khumwan (“Girl from Nowhere”) with stars Baipor-Thitiya Jirapornsilp (“Love Stuck”), Perth-Veerinsara Tungkitsuvanich (“Attack 13”), and Jump-Pisitpol Ekaphongpisit (“The Cliche”), and supporting performances from Wee-Weeraya Zhang, Nepjune-Nutkitta Poonsukwattana, Famed-Sanutcha Janchoom, and Ae-Narinthorn Na Bangchang.

“Thailand has a proud legacy of exceptional horror, supernatural tales, and thriller films that resonate globally with audiences. We’re thrilled to bring ‘Host’ย to Prime Video customers both in Thailand and around the world,” said Darin Darakananda, Head of Central Scripted Series & Movies, International Originals, Amazon MGM Studios. “This collaboration with acclaimed director Pokpong and the talented team at Transformation Films perfectly exemplifies our commitment to delivering authentic local stories with universal appeal. ‘Host’ย represents the kind of distinctive, high-quality storytelling that Thai filmmakers excel at creating, and we’re excited for audiences everywhere to experience this compelling film.”

This haunting original is coming exclusively to Prime Video in over 240 countries and territories worldwide and is scheduled to be released later this year.
