On Thursday, KONAMI held its KONAMI Press Start Live showcase. During the stream, KONAMI shared updates on games like “Metal Gear Solid ฮ: Snake Eater” and “Silent Hill f,” but they closed out the stream with an announcement. Bloober Team, the developers behind the 2024 remake of “Silent Hill 2,” are developing a remake of the original “Silent Hill.” Unfortunately, little else was shared about the project beyond a logo.
News of another collaboration between Bloober Team and Konami first broke in February, when the two signed a deal to allow Bloober Team to make another game based on Konami IP. Now we know it was for a remake of the first “Silent Hill” game.
“Silent Hill” was first released in 1999 on PlayStation and was a direct response to Capcom’s “Resident Evil.” It established the franchise’s lore and trademark fog-filled environments, which have been a staple of most of the games since. Since its release, “Silent Hill” has spawned six mainline games, with the seventh, “Silent Hill f,” slated to be released later this year. There have also been over a dozen spinoffs and remakes.
The original game follows Harry Mason as he searches for his missing daughter, Cheryl, after a car crash in the eerie town of Silent Hill. The town is blanketed in fog and swarming with grotesque creatures, forcing Harry to confront terrifying manifestations and unravel the town’s dark secrets, including a cult and a tragic past involving a girl named Alessa. “Silent Hill” is renowned for its pioneering use of psychological horror over jump scares, deeply unsettling atmosphere, and complex narrative.
