Scarlet Moon has released “Scarlet Moon Halloween Volume V,” marking five years of frightfully festive game music with spooky arrangements from Castlevania, Persona 5, and Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island — along with the franchise’s first-ever pop crossover.
Rounding out the eight-track collection is a jazz-lullaby rendition of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” by duo Gentle Love, a milestone first for the series.
The fifth volume brings back fan-favorite arrangers FamilyJules and bLiNd to tackle Banjo-Kazooie’s “Mad Monster Mansion” and Castlevania’s “Vampire Killer.” Scarlet Moon vocalist Nami Nakagawa (Demon Slayer) contributes an original track, “ichi rin ka,” alongside original pieces from Alex Doty and returning guest George “The Fat Man” Sanger (The 7th Guest). Gladiolus also reimagines Persona 5’s “Tokyo Daylight,” while Steven Silo tackles Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island.
“Five years in, we wanted to try something we’d never done before,” notes Scarlet Moon’s Jayson Napolitano. “Turning ‘Thriller’ into a jazzy lullaby felt like the perfect way to mark the milestone, while our arrangers dug into some genuinely great deep cuts this year, from Yoshi’s Island to Persona 5. We hope fans have as much fun discovering it as we did putting it together.”
Launched in 2022 following the success of the studio’s Christmas series, “Scarlet Moon Halloween” has previously featured arrangements from games such as Metroid, Silent Hill, Resident Evil, and Final Fantasy XVI.
