Shout! Factory announced today that it’s celebrating Pride Month with a two week sale. In addition to the sale, The Babadook is getting a special LGBTQ Pride Blu-ray release.

The Babadook (LGBTQ Pride Edition) comes in an official limited edition and numbered Pride Month-themed slipcover packaging. The edition will be limited to 2,500 and sold exclusively on Shoutfactory.com.

Over recent years, The Babadook has been embraced as an LGBTQ mascot thanks to a growing number of memes posted by members of the LGBTQ community. As Rolling Stone writer E. Young so eloquently put it in 2017:

In the meme, the Babadook represents queerness itself, an invisible threat made real through denial and oppression. Queerness is often cast away into small corners of society but never completely destroyed, often coming back bigger and stronger and more visible, more of a perceived threat to heteronormative society.

In addition to the sale and limited edition release of The Babadook, Shout! Factory s donating a percentage of all sales during the month of June to the Los Angeles LGBT Center® – a long-standing non-profit organization that provides valuable and much-needed services to LGBT individuals and families in L.A. and across the country.

The Babadook (LGBTQ Pride Edition) is available now on ShoutFactory.com. The full list of Blu-rays and DVDs on sale for Pride Month can be found here.
