Something Different For Your 2020 Halloween Playlist: Kaatii’s ‘Afraid of the Dark’

Looking for a less traditional-sounding track for your 2020 Halloween playlist? 14-year-old artist Kaatii just dropped her latest indie-rock single “Afraid of the Dark” and it’s definitely worth considering.

Although the track arrives as the ghosts, goblins, and ghouls come out to play this Halloween—for Kaatii, paranoia is year-round. “Afraid of the Dark is all about being unnecessarily paranoid for no real reason. You know, when your mind gets a little bit twisted and a coat looks like a ghost. The song is a fun take on something that is not fun at all,” she explains.

We’ve all been there—on hyper alert with goosebumps, wide awake and all alone in the middle of the night—except for the creatures in the dark keeping us company, of course. “The inspiration for this song came from one really horrible night of sleep in a remote cabin in Colorado,” Kaatii shares. “I was in Breckinridge for a songwriting retreat and the very first night I ended up having the worst paranoia of my life, going in and out of what felt like sleep paralysis. In the morning, my co-writer, Kara Connolly, and I ended up writing this song after she was too afraid to sleep as well.” Maybe the cabin was haunted.

Casting a spell on fans and industry pros alike, 14-year-old Kaatii plays her own guitar, sings with the vocal clarity and strength of someone twice her age, and has already been featured on the CW33, KXT 91.7 FM, and a variety of tastemaker publications such as PopMatters and Music Connection Magazine. Following in the footsteps of rising stars Beabadoobee and Chloe
Moriondo, Kaatii reminds us with her grungy electric guitar and haunting vocals that you’re never too old to be afraid of the dark.

“Afraid of the Dark” is available now on Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, YouTube Music.
