Stranger Things: The First Shadow

The Duffer Brothers, Jack Thorne, and Kate Trefry are ready to tell the story of the world of “Stranger Things” before it was turned upside down, and to do it, they’ve announced a new live stage show, “Stranger Things: The First Shadow.” Based on an original story by the trio, the new play written by Trefry will receive its world premiere in late 2023 at the Phoenix Theatre in London’s West End, directed by Stephen Daldry with co-direction by Justin Martin.

This new play by Trefry, a writer and co-executive producer for the “Stranger Things” Netflix series, will be rooted in the mythology and world of the show. Set in Hawkins, Indiana, in 1959, the stage show will delve deeper into some of the events we saw glimpses of in “Stranger Things 4.”

Hawkins, 1959: a regular town with regular worries. Young Jim Hopper’s car won’t start, Bob Newby’s sister won’t take his radio show seriously and Joyce Maldonado just wants to graduate and get the hell out of town. When new student Henry Creel arrives, his family finds that a fresh start isn’t so easy… and the shadows of the past have a very long reach.

The show will take fans back to the beginning of the “Stranger Things” story – and may hold the key to the end.

Produced by Netflix and Sonia Friedman Productions, the play will go on sale this spring, details of which will be announced later this month. The Duffer Brothers act as creative producers, with 21 Laps as associate producer. Those interested in attending can sign up for priority ticket access at https://uk.strangerthingsonstage.com/.

Further ticket information, on-sale details, performance schedule, full creative team, and casting will be announced at a later date.
