Independent studio Vertpaint has debuted the first gameplay trailer for its upcoming first-person horror experience, “Ritual Tides,” offering a chilling look at the mysterious island setting, its unsettling atmosphere, and the intense encounters awaiting players.
Set on the remote, 19th-century British island of Hortus, the trailer reveals a world defined by decay. Players awaken on unforgiving shores, forced to navigate a bleak countryside and abandoned settlements that hide the dark secrets of a once-thriving community.
“Ritual Tides” is being developed with the ambition to deliver visual fidelity that surpasses that of many modern AAA productions. To support the game’s unique traversal and combat design, Vertpaint rebuilt its core first-person systems and combat mechanics from the ground up, enabling a deeply immersive and atmospheric horror experience. This technical precision earned the studio high praise from former Blizzard director Jonathan Berube, who dubbed the veteran crew the “Seal Team of Game Development.”
The project boasts a significant horror pedigree, featuring a script supported by acclaimed author Adam Nevill (“The Ritual”). Additionally, horror creator Daz Games—who boasts a massive audience of over 20 million—is both backing the project and appearing in-game as the character Phineam.
“Ritual Tides” is currently in development for PC, with console versions also planned for launch this year.
