On Tuesday, during PlayStation’s State of Play event, Sony dropped a massive bombshell for horror fans: Supermassive Games’ hit 2015 interactive survival horror classic, Until Dawn, will get a sequel in 2027.
Though presented as a sequel, Until Dawn 2 is a standalone experience. The game will feature a brand-new cast and an all-new location to explore, with the enigmatic Dr. Hill serving as the connective tissue within the Until Dawn universe.
Until Dawn 2 follows the crew of Dead True, a popular paranormal channel. The catch? They’ve never actually experienced anything supernatural, and the scares their audience loves are entirely staged.
Everything changes when they sign a massive deal with a major TV network. The crew is sent to investigate Akishima Island, an abandoned tropical locale harboring dreadful, heartbreaking secrets. At first, it’s all fun in the sun—but when they come face-to-face with real, unexplainable horrors, they’re forced to start living up to their reputation to survive the night.
The sequel is being helmed by Firesprite Games, which has promised to honor the core DNA of Until Dawn. Fans can expect plenty of “character drama, tough choices, and those unforgettable horror moments that made the first game so special.”
Adding to the tension, players will now have to actively manage relationships within the crew. Some story branches will pivot entirely based on where things stand between characters. It’s not just the life-or-death decisions, either; even small character interactions can trigger a devastating Butterfly Effect, sending your story spinning toward unforeseen consequences.
While the full cast hasn’t been officially announced, Firesprite confirmed that Peter Stormare will reprise his iconic role as the unsettling Dr. Hill.
Meanwhile, fans are already dissecting IMDb credits and trailer footage. While IMDb lists an impressive ensemble, internet sleuths are already speculating that an uncredited lead in the trailer looks and sounds exactly like Dacre Montgomery (“Stranger Things”).
The currently credited cast includes Tanner Buchanan (“Cobra Kai”), Andie Ju (“Beef”), Hannah Kepple (“Cobra Kai”), Gavin Leatherwood (“Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”), Raymond Lee (“Quantum Leap”), Spence Moore II (“All American”), Neil Newbon (“Baulder’s Gate III”), and Camila Senna (“Música”).
More details on the game’s story, gameplay, and official casting choices are expected to roll out in the coming months.
