Cult classic psychological horror game Sanitarium is making its console debut more than 25 years after its original release. Modern retro publisher Ziggurat Interactive announced Sanitarium Enhanced during the inaugural Pixel Arcadia showcase, revealing that the 1998 point-and-click thriller is coming to modern consoles and PC.
Originally developed by DreamForge Intertainment, the award-winning title puts players in the shoes of Max, an amnesiac who awakens in a decaying asylum with his face wrapped in bandages. To uncover his identity and escape, players must navigate a deeply unsettling world filled with grotesque mutations, bizarre insectoid creatures, and a village inhabited entirely by disfigured children.
This updated version of the game adds modern features to the visually striking title, including full controller support for consoles and Steam Deck, never-before-seen bonus material, widescreen presentation, and other quality-of-life improvements.
Sanitarium Enhanced is slated to launch on PC (via Steam and GOG), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. A release date has not yet been announced.
