Weeks after leaving Fangoria, veteran horror journalist Angel Melanson has officially landed her next big role: Director of Programming for Shudder.
Melanson sparked widespread speculation across the horror community late last month when she announced her departure from Fangoria during an episode of the magazine’s Terror Television. Shortly after her sign-off, Fangoria named longtime film critic and journalist B.J. Colangelo as her successor to lead digital editorial operations.
On Thursday, AMC Global Media answered the question of where Melanson was headed, confirming her appointment to lead Shudder’s content strategy and programming.
“Angel is one of the most respected and well-connected voices in the horror community, with a deep understanding of the genre, its creators and fans,” said Courtney Thomasma, executive vice president of linear and streaming products at AMC. “Her passion, editorial instincts, and unique perspective will be critical as we continue to grow Shudder and strengthen its position as the premier destination for horror fans around the world.”
Melanson spent more than five years as digital editor of Fangoria.com. She is also the founder of Horror Girl Problems and a familiar face to Shudder subscribers, having appeared in original documentary projects like “Queer for Fear” and “In Search of Darkness: Part III.”
Her arrival coincides with Shudder’s annual “Season of Screams” programming event, a four-month slate featuring upcoming originals including “V/H/S/Mixtape,” “Hallowarrior,” a new season of “The Creep Tapes,” and the 2026 FANGORIA Chainsaw Awards.
