‘Postmortem’ Set to World Premiere at Screamfest LA: Odette Annable Stars in Cult-Centered Psychological Thriller

Synestesys has announced that “Postmortem,” the latest psychological thriller from writer-director Andrés Beltrán (“Quicksand”), will make its world premiere at Screamfest LA on Oct. 10.

The film stars Odette Annable (“Supergirl”), Allegra Leguizamo (“Tin Soldier”), Julio César Cedillo (“Sicario”), Andrés Londoño (“Fear the Walking Dead”), Chelsea Harris, and Tony Revolori (“Scream VI”).

Set six months after the sudden death of her husband, “Postmortem” follows a grieving medical examiner (Annable) who runs a small morgue along the California-Mexico border. She and her teenage daughter have kept their lives intact by ignoring their grief — until 16 bodies arrive from an elderly suicide cult. The members died in a ritual meant to raise their leader from the dead, tempting the examiner to attempt the dark ritual herself to reunite with her late husband.

“This is a deeply emotional and unsettling story — about grief, denial, and the terrifying cost of refusing to let go,” Beltrán said.

The film was produced by Jason Cherubini, Roberto Urbina and Martín Ramos. Executive producers include Odette Annable, Andrés Beltrán, John Harris, J. Todd Harris, Marc Marcum, Thomas Pettinelli, Tim Bunson, Luisa Velosa, and Alma Hernández-Hércules.

“From the very beginning, ‘Postmortem’ stood out as something special — genre storytelling that’s grounded in emotional truth,” Cherubini said ahead of the premiere. “With this cast and Andrés at the helm, we’re building something haunting and memorable.”

“Postmortem” will world premiere as part of Screamfest on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 5 p.m. at the TCL Chinese Theatre.
