A Peek Into The Mystic Museum’s ‘The Shining’ Exhibit

On Saturday, February 24 The Mystic Museum in Burbank held its opening reception for their The Shining Tribute Art Show & Exhibit.  The exhibit houses art from nearly 50 artists all inspired by Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 film The Shining.  This is the third exhibit we’ve visited at the museum and they continue to deliver with incredible art and experiences time and again.

The exhibit housed a variety of art mediums ranging from paintings and mixed media pieces to LEGO creations and digital works.  But beyond the artwork, The Bearded Lady’s Mystic Museum did an amazing job capturing the feeling of The Shining by including elements of the film into the exhibit.  The floors were covered in rugs that matched the carpeting in the Overlook Hotel from the film,  a lit bar was home to an actor playing Lloyd the bartender who spent the night eerily gazing at guests, though he wasn’t serving any drinks.  And the atmosphere was made that much better with the help of DJ Baby Magick as she spun a solid mix of goth and dark wave tunes throughout the night.

An actor portraying Lloyd the bartender gazes upon attendees during the opening reception for The Mystic Museum's The Shining exhibit.

As always, the original works on display are available for purchase and the Mystic Museum shop also has a handful of prints from the exhibit available along with a variety of The Shining themed merchandise including coasters, pins, and even miniature bottles of RedRum.  If you can’t make it to the event, below is a sampling of some of the artwork that was submitted to the exhibit.

The Shining fun doesn’t end with this exhibit alone. The Mystic Museum is also hosting a Shining inspired pop-up speakeasy on select dates in March and April. Tickets for the event are $75 and each ticket includes complimentary Shining themed drinks, appetizers, dessert, and novelty Redrum Parlor whiskey glass. During the event, you’ll enjoy a night in an Overlook Hotel Gold Room themed cocktail speakeasy with live entertainment from a gypsy jazz player, live bar magic by Michael Rangel, and the night will be closed out with music from the Mystic Museum’s DJ. Oh, and one more thing, Lloyd, Jack and Wendy from The Shining will all be in attendance.

The Mystic Museum is located at 3204 W. Magnolia Blvd. in Burbank, CA. For more information on the museum and its exhibits or to buy tickets for the Shining-inspired Speakeasy visit The Bearded Lady’s Mystic Museum website.
