Hungarian solo developer Tamas Sandor (Afterlife Studio) has officially announced The Dark Curiosity, a first-person psychological sci-fi horror set on an abandoned space station that is currently in development for PC via Steam.
In The Dark Curiosity, players awaken in a void of memory, tasked with navigating silent laboratories and derelict quarters to piece together the station’s catastrophic downfall.
But the station isn’t empty.
Moving away from scripted jump scares, the game utilizes a reactive AI system. The station’s lone inhabitant, a hostile creature, tracks player behavior, turning every decision to move or hide into a high-stakes gamble with no guaranteed safety. With a heavy focus on atmosphere and perception, the game encourages players to scrutinize small details and question their surroundings. Survival hinges on more than just stealth; integrated sanity and stamina systems force players to manage their physical and mental limits while questioning the reliability of their own senses.
“I wanted to create a kind of tension where players are never completely sure if they’re safe,” says developer Tamas Sandor. “The fear comes from uncertainty, not knowing if what you’re doing is actually keeping you safe.”
The Dark Curiosity is available to Wishlist now on Steam.
