Amazon MGM Studios has released the first trailer for “Verity,” bringing Colleen Hoover’s erotic psychological thriller to the screen with Anne Hathaway (“The Odyssey”), Dakota Johnson (“Fifty Shades” franchise), and Josh Hartnett (“30 Days of Night”).
Directed by Michael Showalter, the film follows Lowen Ashleigh (Johnson), a struggling writer hired to complete the blockbuster book series of renowned author Verity Crawford (Hathaway), who is left paralyzed following a mysterious accident.
After moving into the isolated Crawford estate to sort through Verity’s notes, Lowen discovers an unpublished manuscript containing disturbing autobiographical confessions about Verity, her young family, and her husband, Jeremy (Hartnett). As Lowen digs deeper into the manuscript, the line between fiction and reality blurs, making it hard to separate manipulation from attraction and opportunity from obsession.
Showalter directed the adaptation from a screenplay by Nick Antosca (“Brand New Cherry Flavor”). The film is produced by Showalter, Antosca, Alex Hedlund, Stacey Sher, Jordana Mollick, Hathaway, and Hoover. Dakota Johnson, Lauren Levine, and Kerry Orent serve as executive producers.
