Barb from ‘Stranger Things’ is Making a Horror Short and She Needs Your Help

Shannon Purser, the actress who played Barb in “Stranger Things” and Ethel Muggs on “Riverdale,” is set to make an original horror short film and has launched an IndieGoGo campaign to help bring it to life.

The film is titled “Sisters,” and Purser is serving as both writer and director on the film. The short horror film tells the story of two young girls, Big Sister (17) and Little Sister (10), who are on the run. They appear out of nowhere in a drive-through mountain town, and it’s immediately apparent that their dynamic is unusual: Little Sister is silent and unresponsive, while Big Sister is secretive and cagey. Things take a turn for the monstrous when they cross paths with a creepy Trucker. It’s a film about the specific, complicated bond of sisterhood and the lengths we’d go to protect the ones we love.

“I am so unbelievably excited to add my own voice and vision to the genre,” says Purser on the IndieGoGo page. “This story in particular is an ode to my experiences as a young girl and a sister. I’m one of four girls, and my relationships with my sisters are unlike any others in my life. Women are trained to be alert to spoken and unspoken threats, and all too often, these threats come a little too close to home. There is a specific kind of camaraderie and allyship born out of these shared fears, and I can’t wait to explore that intimacy in this film.”

Purser has assembled quite the team for the project, with Chelsea Stardust (“Satanic Panic”) on board as Producer, Ava Benjamin Shorr (“Fanatical: The Catfishing of Tegan and Sara”) as Director of Photography, Megan Fenton (“Somebody Somewhere”) as Production Designer, and Little Shop of Gore (“Terrifier 3”) set to do special effects.

The project’s goal is $50,000, which will be used to fund the location, practical effects, SFX makeup, and the film’s cast and crew. Perks start at just $10, which will get you a special thanks in the credits up to $5,000, which will score you your own private Tarot Card reading with Purser via Zoom, plus a signed copy of the script, a handwritten thank you note, and a special thanks in the credits.
