‘Blumhouse’s Compendium of Horror’ Series Coming to Epix this October

Premium network EPIX will premiere the horror docuseries “Blumhouse’s Compendium of Horror” on Sunday, October 2 at 10 PM ET/PT. Produced in partnership with Blumhouse Television, this new five-part series is meant to be the definitive retrospective on the horror genre from the company regarded as the driving force in the horror renaissance.

The series revisits the shocks and scares from our favorite iconic cinematic horror moments from the 1930s until today, featuring insights from some of the best and most influential filmmakers, producers, and actors working in the genre, as well as experts and historians. The series, narrated by Robert Englund (“A Nightmare on Elm Street”), reflects how quintessential horror films have revealed and reflected the real-life scares of the world to the audience, uniting us with shared understanding, catharsis, and entertainment.

“We’re thrilled to continue our prolific creative partnership with Blumhouse Television,” said Michael Wright, president of EPIX. “For more than a century, horror films have been an essential part of the American cultural vocabulary, and we couldn’t think of a better partner to examine the history of the genre than Blumhouse, who have consistently raised the bar in the horror space for over 20 years.”

The series’ first episode, “American Monsters,” will explore films of the 1930s and iconic monsters such as Universal’s Dracula and Frankenstein.

Episode two, “Atomic Nightmares,” will explore the themes of horror following World War II when Americans’ anxieties evolved into fears around unchecked science, nuclear annihilation, and Communism (aka “the Red Scare”). Horror filmmakers responded with legendary films like “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” and “The Blob.”

The series’ third episode will explore horror of the 60s and 70s and the films that reflected the real and intangible change younger Americans demanded. A new generation of auteur horror filmmakers pushed the envelope with films like “Halloween,” “Carrie,” “Rosemary’s Baby,” and “The Exorcist.”

Episode four will explore horror of the 80s, the birth of slasher icons like Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees, and the resurgence of vampire films.

“Blumhouse’s Compendium of Horror” will premiere on Sunday, October 2, with new episodes premiering on the four following Sundays.

Jason Blum, Mary Lisio, Ryan Turek, Jeremy Gold, Michael Wright, and Jill Burkhart executive produce. James Buddy Day serves as executive producer and showrunner. MGM will distribute the series worldwide.
