‘California Screaming’: New Horror Anthology Explores the Dark Side of the Golden State

California Screaming: Horror in the Golden State

A new Kickstarter campaign has launched for “California Screaming: Horror in the Golden State,” a new comic book anthology curated by editor Leonie O’Moore (“LORD”). The collection brings together a powerhouse lineup of creators to explore chilling tales set in California.

Targeted at mature readers, the full-color anthology features tales spanning the entire state—from the sun-bleached beaches of SoCal to the misty, towering redwoods of the North. The book showcases original stories from a host of industry veterans and innovative voices, including:

  • David Avallone (“Vampirella,” “Elvira Mistress of the Dark”)
  • Corinna Bechko (“Blood Type,” “Sabrina the Teen Age Witch”)
  • Dan Brereton (“Nocturnals,” “Batman,” “Red Sonja”)
  • Roy Burdine (“Bento Box,” Marvel)
  • Shannon Eric Denton (Disney, Marvel, Blizzard)
  • Rantz Hoseley (“The Heroin Diaries,” “Judas Priest: Screaming for Vengeance”)
  • Piotr Kowalski (“Dracula L’Immortel,” “Bloodborne,” “The Witcher”)
  • Drew Rausch (“My Blacks Don’t Match!,” “ELDRITCH!,” “Edward Scissorhands”)
  • Cat Staggs (“John Carpenter’s Tales For A Halloween Night”)
  • Kelly Williams (Dark Horse, EC)

The project offers several reward tiers for backers, with digital editions starting at $10 and physical copies at $20. The campaign is live now and runs through March 12, 2026, with an initial funding goal of $18,000.
