On Tuesday, Amanda Woomer launched the IndieGoGo campaign for her newest horror short, “Babysitting the Demons on Maple Street,” from her newly established production company Undead Acorn Productions.
The film’s origins date back to a disturbing dream Woomer’s mother had years ago. The dream first inspired a short story in 2019, which was featured in the anthology “Full Metal Horror 2,” and will now serve as the inspiration for the film. Woomer’s own experience with losing her brother to pediatric cancer in 2015 and befriending other bereaved families also helped shape the film. For the short, Woomer is making a few adjustments to the story, trading the setting of an Appalachian cabin for a manor and adding a bit more [broken] heart to the story.
“Babysitting the Demons on Maple Street” is an emotionally driven horror short that explores the struggles of confronting the pain of one’s past and the demons that may arise along the way. The story follows Darcy, a bereaved mother who is still accepting the death of her daughter a year prior, when she agrees to a babysitting gig at the creepiest house in town–the home of the mysterious Mr. Abaddon and his horde of demons.
The film’s cast includes Paul McGinnis (“Frenzy Moon”), Erika Frase (“The Paradox Payout”), and Dominic Luongo (“Guns of Eden”), with additional talent still being scouted.
Check out the short’s teaser below:
To bring this story to life, Woomer will serve as writer and director and is again working with the team behind her award-winning micro short, “Cupcake.” Kristen Skeet will serve as Assistant Director and Producer, and Chris Cossgrave will serve as Director of Photography and Editor. Mike McCoy joins the trio for Special Effects Makeup.
Woomer self-funded “Cupcake,” but “Babysitting the Demons on Maple Street” is a much larger undertaking, with a much more complicated story to tell. Backer donations for “Babysitting the Demons on Maple Street” will be directed towards production costs, special effects makeup, a stop-motion sequence in the short film, and compensation for the cast and crew.
The team behind the film has tried to make backing as affordable as possible, with most perks under $100. Perks range from receiving a special thank you in the credits to posters, to even having a part in the film.
The film’s funding goal is $3,500. For more information or to donate, visit the “Babysitting the Demons of Maple Street” IndieGoGo page.
