If you like your cinema high-concept and low-budget, mark April 7, 2026, on your calendar. Film Masters has officially announced the first wave of their exclusive partnership with the Wade Williams Estate, kicking things off with a two-disc assault on the senses: the “Monster Mayhem Collection.”
Known for preserving and restoring the oft-forgotten corners of film history, Film Masters is giving four all-expenses-spared cult classics a glow-up.
Each film in the set has been sourced from 4K scans of 35mm archival prints, presented in their original theatrical aspect ratios. For the first time, these creature features will be seen without the drive-in grime of decades past.
Included in the collection:
Frankenstein’s Daughter (1958)
Hiding in modern-day, 1950s Los Angeles, the grandson of Victor Frankenstein secretly continues his family’s macabre experiments—creating a female monster while upending the life of an unsuspecting, young woman. Blending beatnik culture with mad science, this is a must-see for fans of vintage sci-fi schlock and those interested in the evolution of the Frankenstein narrative in popular culture.
Giant From the Unknown (1958)
An archaeological expedition in a small California town is seeking artifacts related to the legend of a 500-year-old Spanish conquistador. But when a lightning storm resurrects the long-lost, armored giant—with a murderous rage and an axe to grind—the community is plagued by a series of mysterious killings and is gripped by fear as locals and scientists come together to search for the truth. Made during the late-1950s drive-in monster movie boom, beloved today by genre fans for its nostalgic B-movie charm, moody black-and-white visuals, and monster makeup by Jack Pierce.
The Brain From Planet Arous (1957)
Gor, a criminal brain, escapes from his home planet of Arous and crash-lands on Earth, where he possesses a nuclear physicist to threaten global destruction. His only weakness? A vulnerability known as the Fissure of Rolando, which he must expose to breathe.
Monster From Green Hell (1957)
A U.S. space experiment sends wasps into orbit to test radiation exposure. When the capsule crashes, a rescue team travels into an area of the African jungle known as “Green Hell” and encounters the insects which have morphed into giant, man-eating monsters—leading to a fight for survival. From the era of giant bugs and anxiety over atomic testing, the monster effects in this low-budget howler—including blown-up footage of real insects and wobbling wasp props—the kind of practical effects that define the ’50s creature-feature aesthetic.
This release serves as the inaugural launch from the legendary Wade Williams Collection. Williams was a filmmaker and collector who spent a lifetime safeguarding these titles, and his estate’s new deal with Film Masters ensures these films stay in the hands of fans.
The “Monster Mayhem Collection” is packed with more than just the movies. Special features include:
- Expert commentary: Full-length tracks by film historians Tom Weaver, Stephen R. Bissette, and Gary Crutcher.
- Ballyhoo Documentaries: Four original mini-docs, including deep dives into the careers of directors Richard E. Cunha and Nathan Juran.
- A collectible booklet insert: Featuring a new essay by Tom Weaver covering all four films.
This is only the beginning. With the Wade Williams library boasting an array of coveted titles like “Plan 9 from Outer Space,” “The Crawling Eye,” and “The Day IT Came to Earth,” Film Masters plans to roll out a steady stream of high-quality restorations and the definitive Blu-ray editions of more titles as part of this ongoing partnership in the coming months, many for the first time.
The Monster Mayhem Collection is available for pre-order now.
