George A. Romero’s ‘The Amusement Park’ Coming to the Big Screen in Celebration of the Graphic Novel Release

To celebrate the upcoming release of “John Carpenter Presents George A. Romero’s The Amusement Park,” the new graphic novel adaptation of George A. Romero’s “lost” film from Storm King Comics, the Vidiots Foundation in Los Angeles is presenting a rare opportunity to see the original movie on the big screen.

On Tuesday, June 10, 2025, Vidiots will present a restored version of Romero’s 1975 film, “The Amusement Park.” Long thought to be lost, and originally conceived as a public service announcement, the film is a surreal, haunting commentary on ageism and societyโ€™s treatment of the elderly, wrapped in Romeroโ€™s signature horror style. The George A. Romero Foundation, which is dedicated to honoring the life and preserving Romeroโ€™s work, rediscovered the film 46 years after it was completed and restored it as one of its first projects.

The graphic novel represents the long-awaited collaboration between two of the greatest masters of horror โ€“ George Romero and John Carpenter. Illustrated by The George A. Romero Foundation artist-in-residence Ryan Carr and written by Jeff Whitehead, the Foundation turned to Carpenter and his wife, Sandy King, founder of Storm King Comics, to distribute the project.

“The Amusement Park” stars Lincoln Maazel (“Martin”) as an elderly man who finds himself disoriented and increasingly isolated as the pains, tragedies, and humiliations of aging in America manifest themselves through roller coasters and chaotic crowds. The film will screen at 7:30 PM and will be followed by a conversation with King and Carr moderated by Alison Foreman of IndieWire. After the big-screen event, the two will be available in the lobby to sign copies of the graphic novel.

General Admission tickets for the screening are just $13 and are available now from the Vidiots website.

The screening is also part of Shudder’s 10-Year Anniversary Selects Series. Shudder was the first streaming home to “The Amusement Park” following its restoration and premiered on the streaming platform in the summer of 2021.
