‘Gremlins’ Prequel Cartoon in the Works for WarnerMedia Streaming Service

Mogwai Gizmo from 'Gremlins'

A new animated series based on the 1984 film Gremlins is in development for WarnerMedia’s upcoming streaming service.

According to Variety, the series will be a prequel that follows the adventures of Mr. Wing, the Chinese grandfather played in the films by Keye Luke, and everyone’s favorite Mogwai, Gizmo.

The series will be produced by the television divisions of Warner Bros. and Amblin, the companies behind the original films with Tze Chun (“Gotham,” “Once Upon A Time”) attached to the project as writer and executive producer.

WarnerMedia’s streaming service is scheduled to launch later this year and is expected to house existing Warner properties, with original content expected to hit the platform sometime in 2020.
