One of America’s most notoriously haunted houses is getting a high-stakes facelift.
HGTV is set to premiere its new competition series, “A Very Haunted Renovation,” on Tuesday, Sept. 15, at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Hosted by “Scream 7” star Anna Camp, the six-episode series puts six brave interior designers inside the eerie Bihl Manor in Fremont, Ohio, for 31 days. The goal? Execute a top-to-bottom makeover while battling reported paranormal activity for a $50,000 cash prize.
In each episode, competitors face high-stress elimination challenges that test both their design chops and their nerves. To guide them through the unsettling overhauls, design expert Michel Smith Boyd serves as lead mentor. A star-studded panel of guest judges will evaluate the renovations, including production designer Hannah Beachler, paranormal investigator Jack Osbourne, actor Billy Porter, horror icon Cassandra Peterson (Elvira, Mistress of the Dark), director Eli Roth and actress LuLu Wilson.
“Bihl Manor is one of the most haunted homes in America,” Camp said. “Unoccupied, falling apart and on the verge of demolition, no one is brave enough to step foot inside—until now.”
The series kicks off with a bedroom design showdown, splitting the six contestants—SK Stokes Kennedy, Patrick Peel, John Ryan, Bershan Shaw, Logan Wright and Diana Vogel—into two teams of three. Each trio gets just four days to revamp sleeping quarters allegedly haunted by the spirits of former residents Lizzie and Alvie Bihl.
While the show seems to be leaning into the legend of the Bihl family, local history tells a slightly different story. The Bihls moved out of the home in the 1920s with no recorded deaths on the property. It wasn’t until Clarence and Daisy Wolfe purchased the estate that the home saw its first recorded deaths, adding a layer of show-crafted lore to the haunting narrative.
New episodes of “A Very Haunted Renovation” will be available to stream the next day on HBO Max starting Sept. 16.
