Ice Nine Kills Ends ‘Horrorwood’ Era with New Song and Music Video Inspired by ‘The Silence of the Lambs’

On Thursday, Ice Nine Kills filled the Montalbán Theatre in Hollywood, CA, with a bunch of Psychos (that’s what they call their fans) to debut a full-length film comprised of the band’s seven latest music videos and a new song and video called “Meat & Greet.”

The latest track from Ice Nine Kills marks the end of the Horrorwood era, which kicked off in July 2021 with the release of “Hip to Be Scared,” the first single off the band’s sixth studio album, “The Silver Scream 2: Welcome to Horrorwood.” The music video for the track kicked off a throughline that connects the band’s recent videos to form what has now been presented as a complete film. The video ends with Ice Nine Kills frontman Spencer Charnas being interrogated for the alleged murder of his fiancé. Each subsequent music video is then presented as the contents of a VHS tape that has been submitted as evidence and is somehow tied to the killing. Each video ends telling more of the story and follows an aggravated police chief, played by Bill Mosley (“The Devil’s Rejects”), as he tries to pin the murder on Charnas.

In addition to Mosley, several other horror icons make appearances throughout the series, including Scout Taylor-Compton (Rob Zombie’s “Halloween”), Joe Bob Briggs (“The Last Drive-In”), and Dead Meat’s James A. Janisse and Chelsea Rebecca.

The “Meat & Greet” music video and song take inspiration from the film “The Silence of the Lambs” and features members of the band performing the song while isolated in glass cells, similar to the one that housed the character Hannibal Lecter in the 1991 film. The video serves as the final piece of evidence in the case, which is being watched by Mosley’s character in his home before diving into the epic finale of the Horrorwood saga which answers, “Is Spencer, the killer?”

“Meat & Greet” is meant to serve as the end of Horrorwood, but is it the end of this story? Like all good horror movies, the video ends with a scene that could easily leave it open for a sequel. During a post-movie Q&A, Charnas asked fans if they’d be open to a “Silver Scream 3D,” based on the cheers, I think it’s a resounding yes.

In addition to Thursday’s event, Ice Nine Kills is celebrating the end of the Horrorwood Saga by releasing “Welcome To Horrorwood Under Fire,” a 3LP Deluxe Edition of the chart-topping album “The Silver Scream 2: Welcome To Horrorwood.” The release will land on October 20 via Fearless Records and includes the original album, now with the addition of “Meat & Greet,” two reimagined tracks, and a limited edition, wearable Silence mask based on the killer’s mask in the music videos. The release is available for pre-order now.

If you couldn’t attend the live event or watch the livestream, you can still watch the Meat & Greet event on the Ice Nine Kills YouTube channel.
