Unhinged, a new immersive horror game experience starring Zoë Kravitz (“The Batman”), Sadie Sink (“Stranger Things”), and gaming icon Troy Baker (The Last of Us), is coming to Netflix on June 30, 2026. To play, all you need is a standard Netflix subscription and your smartphone, which transforms into your controller. Best of all? The entire playthrough clocks in at about the length of a standard TV episode, making it the perfect bite-sized thrill.
The experience thrusts players directly into the center of a claustrophobic thriller. Ava (Kravitz) finds herself trapped inside her apartment building during a brutal Category 5 hurricane. Her only lifeline to the outside world is a call from her best friend, Claire (Sink), who lives across the street.
But the true terror isn’t the storm. A suffocating uneasiness quickly transforms Ava’s sanctuary into a hostile prison. The building’s stairwell is locked shut, blocking her escape, and a frantic wellness check on a neighbor reveals unsettling signs of life—but no answer. Soon, a spine-chilling realization sets in: Ava is no longer alone. What begins as a terrifying blackout spirals into a mind-bending fight for survival.
Developed by Netflix’s own Night School Studio (the award-winning team behind Oxenfree and Oxenfree II: Lost Signals), Unhinged aims to redefine interactive streaming.
Once launched, Unhinged will be available from the Netflix Games row. To play, scan the on-screen QR code to link your smartphone as a controller. From there, the integration is seamless: The real-world movements on your phone track directly with Ava’s hands in the game, allowing you to physically guide her flashlight through the shadows.
The immersion goes a step further with audio. When Ava receives a call or text, your actual phone rings, vibrates, and plays the audio directly through its speaker, while the rest of the environmental sound effects boom through your TV.
To achieve this level of tension, the studio tapped award-winning composer Jason Hill (“Mindhunter”) for the score and Ren Klyce (“The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”) for the sound design.
How you survive depends entirely on your playstyle. If you’re just here for the spooky vibes, Story Mode features no timers, prevents you from dying, and lets you enjoy a pure narrative experience.
If you want a challenge, Standard Mode puts your reflexes to the test. During high-stakes moments, a shrinking timer bar forces you to quickly scan the room for interactive objects. If you can’t find what you need before time runs out, Ava dies—though instead of a punishing “Game Over,” you’ll simply restart from your last checkpoint.
Survival, however, depends on your chosen version of gameplay. If you want a pure narrative experience, Story Mode features no timer, so it prevents you from dying and lets you play through the story. But in Standard Mode, it all comes down to your reflexes. During high-stakes moments, a shrinking timer bar at the top of the screen forces you to quickly scan the room for an interactive object. If you can’t find what you need before time runs out, you will die — though instead of a total game over, you’ll restart from your last checkpoint.
You can experience Unhinged starting June 30, exclusively on Netflix, with no ads or in-game purchases. Just select it from the Games tab, scan the QR code, and try to survive the night.
