On Wednesday, Lionsgate released the official trailer and poster for its upcoming thriller, “The Long Walk,” adapted from Stephen King’s first-written novel.
King’s 1979 novel is set in an alternative, dystopian version of the United States. The plot revolves around the Long Walk, an annual, televised contest in which 100 young men walk without stopping along U.S. Route 1. Those who stop for too long are penalized, and those with repeated infractions are eliminated.
The film is being directed by Francis Lawrence, who dealt with a similar subject matter of a totalitarian regime that televised the death of its people for sport as the director of “The Hunger Games” franchise films “Catching Fire,” “Mockingjay” parts 1 and 2, and “The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes.”
“The Long Walk” stars Cooper Hoffman (“Licorice Pizza”), David Jonsson (“Industry”), Garrett Wareing (Ransom Canyon”), Tut Nyuot (“The Witcher: Blood Origin”), Charlie Plummer (“Looking for Alaska”), Ben Wang (“Mean Girls”), Roman Griffin Davis (“Jojo Rabbit”), Jordan Gonzalez (“Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin”), Joshua Odjick (“Little Bird”), Josh Hamilton (“Eigth Grade”), with Judy Greer (“Ant-Man”), and Mark Hamill (“Star Wars” franchise).
The film is slated to arrive in theaters on September 12, 2025. The film’s poster, which is inspired by the cover of the original novel, can be seen below.
