Two titans of dark whimsy are finally joining forces. Rob Reger and American McGee have announced a limited-edition collaboration 28 years in the making: The Dreadful Emily.
This isn’t just a toy; it’s a cross-generational event for anyone who grew up on a diet of gothic aesthetics and twisted storytelling. The collaboration brings together Emily the Strange—the definitive symbol of 90s indie nonconformity—and the “wicked and wonderful” universe of Plushie Dreadfuls, founded by legendary game designer American McGee (Alice).
The friendship between the two creators dates back to 1998. “I first met and immediately clicked with creator Rob Reger in 1998, who had just risked everything to get Emily the Strange off the ground,” says American McGee, Founder and CEO of Plushie Dreadfuls. “With our busy schedules, we didn’t have the time to really connect until last year, when we decided to bring together two of the world’s most iconic goth girls.”
The Dreadful Emily translates the character’s signature deadpan expression into the soft, textured form of a Plushie Dreadful. True to the aesthetic, Emily is rocking a custom onesie adorned with a broken, stitched heart motif and—in a nod to her feline companions—cat skull-and-bones tattoos inside the long bunny ears.
This special-edition run is strictly limited to 2,200 plushies. Each is tagged with a numbered product tag for authenticity and includes an exclusive collector’s card and tote bag. For the ultimate fan, a special autographed option will also be available, featuring a card hand-signed by both Reger and McGee.

The Dreadful Emily will launch soon at PlushieDreadfuls.com. Given the small run of 2,200 units and the combined massive following of both brands, fans are encouraged to move quickly before she disappears back into the shadows.
