Yellow Veil Pictures has announced the official release of Racheal Cain’s debut feature “Somnium.” Yellow Veil will bring the acclaimed science fiction horror film to select theaters starting August 28, 2025, followed by its release on major streaming platforms on September 9. The film premiered at the 2024 Chattanooga Film Festival, where it took home the Audience Award, and went on to take the Silver Audience Award Prize at Brooklyn Horror Film Festival. Lead actress Chloรซ Levine took home the Best Actress Award at FilmQuest.
The acclaimed indie film marks the feature directorial debut of writer/director Racheal Cain. The film follows Gemma, a small-town girl who, after a painful breakup, moves to Los Angeles with the hopes of making it big. To get on her feet, she takes a job working the overnight shift at Somnium – a mysterious, experimental sleep clinic where dreams are made real. Meanwhile, Gemma throws herself into the cutthroat world of Hollywood auditions. But as the pressure to succeed mounts, she begins to experience strange and unsettling phenomena, and soon finds herself trapped in a nightmarish spiral as she discovers a darkness lurking within the clinic walls.
The cast is led by Chloรซ Levine (“The Sacrifice Game”). Levine is joined by Peter Vack (“Mozart in the Jungle”), Will Peltz (“Unfriended”), Johnathon Schaech (“Suitable Flesh”), and Grace Van Dien (“Stranger Things”).
The road to the release of “Somnium” began in 2011, when Cain first started writing the script. However, the project gained traction in 2018 with a successful crowdfunding campaign launched on social media. Production occurred in two phases, with all of the filmโs flashbacks scenes shot in 2018 and its present-day scenes in 2021 and 2022, four years later.
“Somnium” will officially open theatrically on Friday, August 29, in Los Angeles, followed by a run in New York City starting September 6.
โI couldnโt have dreamt Somnium would end up in theaters just a few miles from where I started writing it all those years ago,” said Cain. “This film has clawed its way into existence over the last decade, and I can only hope viewers find it was worth the wait.”
Beginning September 9, audiences across North America will be able to rent or own “Somnium” on Digital HD, including Apple TV, Prime Video, and Fandango at Home.
