Genre films and television series led the pack at the Hollywood Creative Alliance (HCA) Astra Creative Arts Awards on Thursday evening. Held at Castaway Burbank, the ceremony saw heavy hitters like “Sinners” and “Frankenstein” secure major wins, alongside fan-favorite series including “Wednesday,” “Stranger Things,” “It: Welcome to Derry,” and “Alien: Earth.”
The event celebrated the artisans whose exceptional work continues to elevate the craft of storytelling across film and television. This year’s nominees showcased an extraordinary range of creative achievement from studio blockbusters to critically acclaimed independent features to some of the most celebrated and universally beloved series on television.
Film Highlights
On the film side, Ryan Coogler’s “Sinners” and Guillermo del Toro’s “Frankenstein” emerged as the night’s biggest winners, earning three awards apiece.
“Sinners” clinched trophies for Best Casting (Francine Maisler), Best Cinematography (Autumn Durald Arkapaw), and Best Sound. Meanwhile, “Frankenstein” was recognized for its visual craftsmanship, taking home awards for Best Costume Design (Kate Hawley), Best Makeup and Hairstyling, and Best Production Design (Tamara Deverell).
Additionally, Zach Cregger’s latest horror film, “Weapons,” earned the award for Best Marketing Campaign.
Television Highlights
The television categories saw a similar trend, with “Wednesday” and “Stranger Things” each securing two wins. “Wednesday” was honored for Best Choreography (Corey Baker) and Best Costume Design (Colleen Atwood). “Stranger Things” took home wins for Best Score (Kyle Dixon & Michael Stein) and Best Visual Effects.
Newer genre entries also made their mark: HBO’s “It: Welcome to Derry” won Best Main Title Design, while FX’s “Alien: Earth” was recognized for Best Sound.
Nominees for the 2025 Astra Creative Arts Awards were selected by two dedicated nominating committees of industry professionals, including actors, artisans, critics, directors, entertainment journalists, and publicists.
