The beauty behind the blood, sweat, and tears of 2025’s biggest hits took center stage Saturday night. The Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild (IATSE Local 706) announced the winners of its 13th Annual Awards at a sold-out event at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel, celebrating the best in transformational artistry across film, TV, and stage.
Hosted by the charismatic Rachael Harris (“Suits”), the gala drew over 850 attendees, including guild members, industry executives, and press, to witness a night where, among the winners were film and television horror hits “Sinners,” “Frankenstein,” and “Stranger Things.”
Ryan Coogler’s “Sinners” swept the period categories, taking home awards for Best Period and/or Character Make-Up and Best Period and/or Character Hair Styling. Meanwhile, Guillermo del Toro’s adaptation of “Frankenstein” for Netflix secured the win for Best Special Make-Up Prosthetics.
The “Frankenstein” fever extended to the stage as well, with the Segerstrom Center for the Arts’ production of the tale winning the award for Broadway and International Live Theater Production: Make-Up and Hair Styling.
Some friends of genre storytelling were also recognized with special honors during the event.
The Distinguished Artisan Award was presented to Amy Madigan by “Weapons” director Zach Cregger alongside the film’s makeup team, Leo Satkovich, Melizah Wheat, and Jason Collins. Madigan, currently an Oscar frontrunner for her role in the $269M-grossing hit “Weapons,” was recognized for a career that spans decades of iconic transformations.
Oscar-nominated and Emmy-winning make-up artist Greg Nelson, known for his work on Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” and “Death Becomes Her,” received the Lifetime Achievement Award for Make-Up, presented by Robert Patrick (“Tulsa King”) and David Hussey (“That’s My Bush”).
