Tokyo-based Sony Music Labels has acquired full rights to “Spookiz,” the online animated shorts, which have garnered a global fanbase in the US, Asia, Latin America, and the UK. The acquisition marks the first time Sony Music Labels, which primarily focuses on the music recording business, has acquired animated character content.
“Spookiz,” a blend of the words ‘spooky’ and ‘kids,’ has four seasons of content and a movie, which have primarily been distributed through its official YouTube channel, boasting over 6 million subscribers. The series is a collection of one to three-minute short non-verbal animations set at an elementary school where adorable and wacky monsters come to life in the middle of the night.
This year, Sony Music Labels will team up with Keyring Co., Ltd., a South Korea-based animation studio renowned for its creative prowess and production capabilities, to produce new “Spookiz” animations, launch a new season, and develop and introduce new characters. The series’ current character lineup includes five monsters, each with its own unique color, shape, and personality.
- Cula โ a boastful and mischievous yet lovable Dracula
- Frankie โ a kindhearted Frankenstein, obsessed with food
- Kebbi โ an energetic and carefree but unpredictable Goblin
- Kongkong โ a slightly devious but cute Chinese Ghost
- Zizi โ a charming and bright Zombie with a smell
Additionally, there will be a focus on creating content that incorporates music to reach and engage with an even wider age group.
