The team behind “In Search of Darkness” and “The Thing Expanded” is officially tackling the movie that invented the summer blockbuster.

CreatorVC has announced its next major project: “Jaws Explored,” an immersive, feature-length documentary diving into the depths of Steven Spielberg’s 1975 masterpiece. Directed by Ian Nathan (“The Thing Expanded”), the film is slated for a Summer 2027 release, with pre-orders officially open now through August 9, 2026.

While “Jaws” has no shortage of traditional “making-of” featurettes, “Jaws Explored” aims to do something different by guiding viewers through the film, almost moment-by-moment. Rather than just rehashing behind-the-scenes trivia, the documentary will focus on why the film still terrifies and captivates audiences five decades later.

Fans can expect fresh perspectives from top-tier filmmakers, critics, and experts examining its influences, decades of fan appreciation and obsession, and its cultural impact.

“There is something insanely ambitious about ‘Jaws Explored,’ said Nathan. “This is a documentary attempting the impossible — to reintroduce you to a lifelong friend. To transform your very understanding of Spielberg’s masterpiece. This is not simply a documentary about ‘Jaws,’ this is an entirely new way of exploring film.”

True to CreatorVC’s crowd-focused model, “Jaws Explored” is being made in ongoing consultation with the global Jaws fan community.

The project is available for pre-order now at jawsexplored.com. As is tradition for CreatorVC releases, backers can score exclusive merch packages that include companion books, t-shirts, and limited-edition posters.
