Two Years After A Failed Submission, LEGO Creator Returns With All-New Addams Family Mansion LEGO Ideas Submission

The Addams Family mansion built out of LEGO showing the closed and open three story design.

For the 50th anniversary of The Addams Family television series, Hugh Scandrett, an avid Addams fan and LEGO builder created a three-story, 7,200 piece replica of the Addams’ mansion for LEGO Ideas, the official LEGO community that lets fans share new ideas for LEGO sets.  His initial concept reached the 10,000 vote threshold, which is needed to make it to the review phase, but failed to make it to the final phase of turning the design into an actual LEGO product due to the fact the design exceeded piece limitations.  Now, two years later, Scandrett has submitted a new design to the site, this time with a design that is within the 3,000 piece limit and still just as amazing.

The new three-story design measures in at 23″ tall and features a full greenhouse, 8 minifigures (Morticia, Gomez, Wednesday, Pugsley, Uncle Fester, Grandmama, Cousin It and Lurch) and a total of 2,975 pieces.

Despite significantly reducing the piece count for the set, Scandrett was able to retain a number of the mansion’s features including:

  • Tish’s large rattan chair, with her black fan
  • Thing delivering mail from his table
  • Cleopatra, the meat-eating plant in the greenhouse
  • The tall stuffed polar bear
  • The NYSE stock market ticker tape machine
  • A Suit of Armor
  • Massive fireplace, with the familiar moose head above the mantle
  • A bed of nails
  • Kitty Kat the lion upstairs, along with a coffin
  • Grandmama and Uncle Fester with his light bulb and dynamite
  • Back upper deck, with cannon and cannon balls
  • Backyard cemetery
  • An array of spooky elements such as bats, owls, spiders, a rat, and spider webs

At the time of this writing the new design had over 4,700 votes and has 586 days left to reach the 10,000 vote threshold to be considered for an actual LEGO set.  Details on the new design along with dozens of interior photos can be seen at the projects LEGO Ideas page.
