On Friday, the All Hallows Wife and I were invited out to Pirates Dinner Adventure in Buena Park, CA, to experience Vampirates, the Halloween-themed dinner show taking place on select nights through November 11.
The interactive dinner show is a spooky spin on the Pirates Dinner experience that finds the evil Captain Sebastian and his crew of pirates transformed into a gang of bloodsucking buccaneers. Their latest voyage could spell the end for a captured Siren, and it’s up to the monster hunter Kate to save the day!
The high energy, early two-hour experience features a little bit of everything from sword fight action to romance, a couple of song numbers, and even some aerial stunts, all of which are performed to a spooky soundtrack that features everything from Ozzy Osbourne to the “Stranger Things” mix of “Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God).” There’s even a ‘hoa hoa hoa’ moment for you “Twilight” fans out there.
The entire experience unfolds as you savor a delicious feast, beginning with a soup or salad, followed by a main course, and concluding with dessert. We had the roasted chicken, which came with a side of mashed potatoes and vegetables, which were quite tasty. One amusing anecdote for those who order the salad: the blue lighting can make the salad appear a little less appetizing when it arrives, as it alters the lettuce’s color, but I can assure you it’s perfectly fine. The All Hallow’s Wife checked with her phone’s flashlight just in case!
Like the traditional Pirates Dinner Adventure experience, guests are seated in colored sections that determine which Vampirate they’ll be cheering on for the evening. We were sitting in the yellow section to cheer on Antonio, the greatest unliving swordsman in the world. He was a high-energy pirate with great crowd interaction, ensuring our section remained engaged throughout the experience, even though our side struggled with the interactive challenges a bit.
That’s right, it’s an interactive dinner show, which means plenty of opportunities for guest involvement. From racing around the ship in row boats to hoisting your pirate’s colors, guests have the chance to volunteer to help their pirate complete challenges throughout the evening.
We had previously experienced the Pirates Dinner Adventure, but this was our first Vampirates experience. It was definitely a nice Halloween twist to the experience, adding just enough spooky factor for the season while still making it fun and accessible enough for guests of all ages. This is definitely something our kids would have enjoyed when they were younger, and we as adults had a good time as well. Vampirates offers a unique and memorable way to celebrate the Halloween season.
