Forget everything you know about “Resident Evil.” On Thursday, Sony Pictures ushered in a new era of the franchise by releasing the teaser trailer for the latest take from Zach Cregger, the breakout mastermind behind the horror hits “Barbarian” and “Weapons.”
Co-written by Cregger and Shay Hatten (“Ballerina”), the film pivots from the franchise’s usual lore to tell an all-new standalone survival story. Austin Abrams (“Weapons”) stars as Bryan, a medical courier whose routine delivery descends into a blood-soaked, non-stop race for survival.
Zach Cherry (“Severance”), Kali Reis (“True Detective”), and Paul Walter Hauser (“Richard Jewell”) also star.
The first trailer gives us our first taste of the film’s frosty setting and some of the horrors Bryan will face on his path to survival.
Produced by Columbia Pictures and Constantin Film in association with TriStar Pictures, Resident Evil is slated to hit theaters—including IMAX and premium formats—on September 18, 2026.
